"This was a demoniac laugh - low, suppressed, and deep - uttered, as it seemed, at the very keyhole of my chamber door." (Bronte 215)
Throught the novel Charlotte Bronte adds elements of gothic horror. In this instance she uses evil laughter. This sends a chill up the readers spine. Bronte uses a gotchic theme often when she is describing Bertha, Mr. Rochester's wife, but also during other scences in the night. Bronte used the gothic theme very well in my opinion. As I was reading certain chapters before bed, I became frightened and weary of the monsters hidden under my bed.
